Centuries have come and centuries have gone, but the plight of women has not changed. In Malayali culture, a woman occupies a vital position and venerable place, but at the same time their glorification is rather mythical. Violence against women both inside and outside their homes has been a crucial issue in Kerala. Shot stay home provides temporary shelter (for a period of 4 months, extended up to 2 months) and rehabilitation of women who have no social support system due to broken families, mental strains, social ostracism and exploitation. The women admitted either continue their education or they have an option to engage in vocational training. They are released to their relatives or transferred to another institution if a longer stay is needed. A society that is unable to respect, protect and nurture its women needs to undergo a social change. So as responsible residents of kozhikode, let us pledge to end this discrimination and join hands to celebrate womanhood.
