എന്തെങ്കിലും സഹായം ലഭ്യമാവുമോ എന്നന്വേഷിച്ച് 57 വയസ്സ് പ്രായമുള്ള ഒരാൾ കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം ഓഫീസിൽ വന്നിരുന്നു. 30 വയസ്സിലധികം പ്രായമുള്ള ബുദ്ധിവികാസമില്ലാത്ത ഒരു യുവാവിന്റെ അച്ഛനാണ്. ഹൃദ്രോഗത്തിനു അടിയന്തിരമായി ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ വേണമെന്ന് ഡോക്ടർ നിർദ്ദേശിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. പക്ഷെ ഇത് വരെ ചെയ്യാൻ പറ്റിയിട്ടില്ല. മൂന്നു പെൺമക്കളുള്ളത് കല്യാണം കഴിച്ചയച്ചു. ഇപ്പോൾ ബാപ്പയും ഉമ്മയും മകനും ഒന്നിച്ച് താമസം. സ്വന്തമായി വീടോ സ്ഥലമോ ഇല്ല. വല്ലപ്പോഴും ചെയ്യുന്ന മീൻ കച്ചവടമാണ് ഏക വരുമാന മാർഗം. മൂന്നു മക്കളെ കെട്ടിച്ചയച്ചതിന്റെ സാമ്പത്തിക ബാദ്ധ്യതകൾ ഉണ്ട്. വാടക വീട്ടിൽ താമസം. സ്ഥിര ബുദ്ധിയില്ലാത്ത മകന് ഇടക്കിടെ വീട്ടുപകരണങ്ങളും ജനലുകളും മറ്റും തല്ലിപ്പൊളിക്കുന്ന അക്രമസ്വഭാവമുള്ളതു കൊണ്ട് വീട്ടുടമകൾ സാധാരണയായി താമസം തുടങ്ങി രണ്ട് മാസത്തിനകം വീടൊഴിപ്പിക്കാറാണ് പതിവ്. രണ്ട് ദശാബ്ദത്തിലധികം നിരന്തരമായ സാമ്പത്തിക പ്രശ്നങ്ങളും മാനസിക സംഘർഷങ്ങളുമായി ഒരു കുടുംബം. കണ്ടു നിൽക്കുന്നവർക്കും പലപ്പോഴും കഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവരോടൊപ്പം നിസ്സഹായരായി നിൽക്കാൻ മാത്രം സാധിക്കുന്ന അവസ്ഥ. എന്തെങ്കിലും ചെയ്യാൻ പറ്റുമോ എന്ന് കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം കരുണാർദ്രം കോഴിക്കോട് സംഘത്തിൽ നടന്ന ചർച്ചക്കിടയിൽ ഒരു സുഹൃത്ത് താമരശ്ശേരിയിൽ തന്റെ കുടുംബസ്വത്തിൽ നിന്നും വീട് വെക്കാൻ മൂന്ന് സെന്റ് സ്ഥലം വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തു. അപ്പോൾ അത്രയുമായി. സ്ഥലം ശരിയായി. ഇനി ഒരു ചെറിയ വീട് വെക്കാൻ ഒരു ഏഴു ലക്ഷം രൂപ വേണം. അത്ര ചെറിയ തുകയല്ല എന്നറിയാം. പക്ഷെ നമുക്ക് എല്ലാവർക്കും കൂടി ഈ തുക സമാഹരിച്ച് അഷ്റഫിനെയും കുടുംബത്തെയും സഹായിക്കാൻ പറ്റില്ലേ?

This is the story of a 57 year old fish vendor with a 30 year old intellectually disabled son. He lives in rented houses with his wife and son who show frequent aggressive behavior. Has to change houses every couple of months because house owners evict them when they see household items or window panes broken in bots of violence. Same pattern for more than two decades. Been a frustrating end extremely depressing life for the family. But he managed to marry off his three daughters during this time, which has been the main reason for his accumulated debt. Over the years, he has also acquired a heart disease requiring a major surgery. He said he is tired of running  around and having a house would bring a ray of hope in his life. A friend in the Compassionate Kozhikode team has offered a piece of land to build a house for this family. What is needed now is something like 700,000 rupees to build a small house.
