“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.” Fifty years before the birth of Christ, Cicero said this. Kozhikode has a beautiful garden around Mananchira but the old public library gazing on to the green lawns is in disarray for years. Sheer neglect and our unwillingness to adapt to the requirements of the present generation added to its woes.
The first phase renovation is completed in the Public Library building and now we have set up Digital Library, Language Labs and Kaushal Kendra – a skill development unit. Second phase would involve Childrens' library and adding more books. Internationally renowned cultural and learning organizations are invited to set their branches which will provide access to learning, art appreciation and rich evenings opening up a window to the richer realms of culture.
Status: First phase inauguration completed recently. Second phase is being worked out and sponsors identified. We are looking for volunteers, and friends of library to take this forward.
