Tere Mere Beach Mein

Calicut (Kozhikode) beach is a major attraction for localities and tourists who visit the region. Situated close to city centre, the beach is a popular hang-out location during evenings and holidays. Even though the beach extends for over 3 km, most people frequent in the 1 km stretch situated between two crumbling piers that extends towards the middle of the sea. Kozhikode beach is famous for street side eateries and several local delicacies are served in the evenings and during festivals by small street vendors.

Even though Kozhikode beach is one of the most popular places in the city, the beach is not up kept and is quite dirty. The huge crowd coming to the beach and lack of proper waste collection and disposal mechanism makes Kozhikode beach one of the dirtiest beaches in Kerala.

The fundamental problem was the lack of waste collection and disposal mechanisms on the beach. This combined with measures to reduce the generation of waste can lead to a sustainable solution to the problem.

We’ve identified six business groups as partners who would take up the responsibility to maintain the Kozhikode beach. The partner incurs the cost of maintenance of the beach. Partners were identified on the basis of their willingness and their proposed plan for the different beach segments.

The uniqueness of the project is that this project has been taken up by the partners as a good will gesture without any claim to advertise or commercial benefits
